Aidan's Radiating Diamonds Blanket

Pattern: Aidan's Radiating Diamonds Blanket

Yarn: Baby Bee Sweet Delight in Teddy 14 (4.29 skeins or 1617 yards)

Hook: Size G (4.00mm)

Finished Size: 43 1/2" Square

Pattern Notes: I am working from the free version. To have a sharp square corner, I am using the 2Dc, Ch2, 2Dc option. The pattern is a little confusing at first.  But after working a few rounds, I believe the writer is using this method to make the instructions more concise.  She has done a very good job at explaining the pattern.  At first glance this may seem overwhelming.  I encourage anyone not to get discouraged.  This really is a fairly simple pattern. I have taken a picture of Round 2-17 hoping that seeing the blanket will clarify any confusion for others.  I believe the paid version of the pattern also includes diagrams if anyone is struggling to understand the free version.  Once you start to figure out the pattern, look at her "Single Side Simplified" notes. These will help you to figure out the pattern stitch counts for each side rather than reading the detailed written instructions.  For the border I altered the pattern by completing BorderRound 1, 4 & 5 of the pattern.

Measurements: Hoping that I will have enough yarn to make this blanket between 36 & 48" square. Because this is a square design, the below measurements are obviously both the width & height of the blanket.

  • Round 27 (14 1/4")
  • Round 23 (19 1/2")
  • Round 28 (24")
  • Round 33 (28 1/2")
  • Round 37 (32") - This is the first place the instructions suggest to begin border.
  • Round 41 (35 1/2")
  • Round 46 (39 1/2") - This is the second place the instructions suggest to begin border.  I am choosing to begin my border at this point.
  • BorderRound 3 (43 1/2")

Yarn Usage: When working on a project where yarn usage increases significantly towards the final rows or rounds, it can be helpful to weigh yarn in order to track yarn usage & use that information to make more educated decisions.  I ended up needing to use some leftover yarn in a different dye lot for my border.  Since I didn't have enough to complete 5 border rounds. I did BorderRound 1, 4 & 5 of the pattern.

  • Round 23 (115 g or 377 yards - Finished skein 1)
  • Round 28 (159g or 520 yards)
  • Round 30 (185g or 607 yards)
  • Round 32 (211g or 693 yards)
  • Round 33 (225g or 739 yards)
  • Round 35 (250g or 818 yards)
  • Round 37 (278g or 912 yards)
  • Round 39 (308g or 1010 yards)
  • Round 41 (339g or 1112 yards - Finished skein 3)
  • Round 43 (374g or 1225 yards)
  • Round 44 (393g or 1289 yards)
  • Round 46 (428g or 1405 yards)
  • Border Round 1 (450g or 1474 yards - Finished skein 4)
  • Border Round 3 (493g or 1617 yards)

The written instructions are really long & I don't want to have to print off so many pages.  Since I've been working with the "Single Side Simplified" notes, I copied & pasted them for Round 29-45.
